IMRT
IMRT is a technique that targets a tumour with highly conformal dose of radiation while restricting the exposure to adjacent healthy tissues and organs. IMRT uses multiple small radiation beams of various intensities that accurately conform to a tumour. The intensity of each beam is controlled, while the beam shape changes throughout each treatment using multi-leaf collimators, allowing a relatively uniform dose to the tumour and a sharp fall-off of the dose to the surrounding healthy organs. Therefore, side effects are reduced.
IMRT is being used for treating subsites like head and neck cancer, breast cancer, lung cancer, GI cancers, Gynaecological and Genito urinary malignancies.
IGRT
IGRT involves a combination of Intensity modulated radiation treatment, along with a concurrent cone beam CT scan that allows for an increased precision during treatment.Apart from dealing with the three dimensions of space, IGRT deals more effectively with the tumour motion in time, the fourth dimension using 4D simulation, imaging, treatment planning, treatment delivery, and verification, resulting is minimal normal tissue toxicities.
SRS
Stereotactic Radiosurgery is a non-invasive, image guided, precise high dose of radiation is delivered within minutes wherein 3D images of the tumour are taken before and during the procedure. SRS is a very effective treatment modality for small brain tumors or brain metastasis for cure. In Novalis Tx by using non-co planer beams SRS is used to treat Malignant and benign lesions like arteriovenous malformations, recurrent brain tumours, and brain metastases
SRT
It is a form of Stereotactic radiosurgery where the total dosage of radiation is sub-divided into several smaller doses given over the course of treatment instead of single treatment as in SRS .It is being used for benign and malignant brain Tumours like Meningioma, Pituitary adenomas, Vestibular schwannoma, recurrent brain tumours, and brain metastases.
Brachytherapy
Brachytherapy is a type of radiation treatment where radioactive sources are inserted inside the tumour for treatment. This is considered the highest form of conformal treatment as the radiation is given from within the tumour with minimal dose to the surrounding normal tissue. Brachytherapy is being used for treatment of gynaecological malignancies like cervical and endometrial cancer.
